A Special Series, in Four Parts: Is Humanity's Last Invention Also Its Last Frontier?
Iāve been thinking about this a long, long time. Long enough that Iāve started and abandoned multiple versions of an article, or series, like this. The ideas are āout there,ā ranging from moderately esoteric to wholly uninteresting (to some folks, anyway). But as I keep reading and watching and listeningāand as I dive deeper into the alleged ādifferencesā among groups and beliefs and philosophiesāI find it harder and harder to ignore the real parallels we now see between so-called transhumanism and what God Himself told us about how all this comes to an end. You might say that ātrans-humanismā is the ultimate atheist religious preceptāwhat it looks like when those who believe in no God seek the āeternal lifeā we were created for in the first place. That the transhumanist types and spiritual descendants of Abraham, not to mention countless more believers across the East and West, look forward to simply different versions of the same event struck me as odd. And also perfectly sensical.
Wait, Are We Talking Transhumanism or Consciousness?
Yes.
Both. By necessity.
They are linked, at least by virtue of what understanding the latter enables in the endeavors of the former.
They converge and diverge at points that demonstrate how both the believers and non-believersāatheists and theistsādeveloped distinct modes of thought in their common quest for the same Truth.
Of course what makes us distinct is interesting, too; some of us seek communion with reality outside of us while others seek not communion but subordination of that same realityāand all of its assumed faculties.
In understanding the latter, we attempt to realize the former. And I mean we, for whatever discourse we fail to to have about the latter will affectāfor better or worseāhumanityās capacity to properly understand and realize the former.
